Medical Visualisation / Web Development
MetaAbdomen is a web platform for exploring abdominal anatomy through interactive 3D models. It brings models created from medical imaging into a browser, allowing users to explore anatomical structures without installing specialist viewing software. The project combines medical visualisation, anatomy and web development to support education and research.
Users can view anatomy from different angles, examine individual structures and explore how the parts of the abdomen fit together. Moving from a fixed image to an interactive model offers another way to communicate spatial relationships that can be difficult to explain through text or individual scan images.

Textbooks and diagrams provide useful explanations, although a fixed viewpoint can make depth and the position of neighbouring structures difficult to appreciate.
MetaAbdomen allows users to explore this information in three dimensions and at their own pace. They can focus on an area of interest, examine it from several perspectives and return to the wider model for context. The aim is to make anatomical models more accessible as resources for learning, discussion and research.
A particular focus is the organisation of the abdomen and the relationships between its structures. Viewing these together, or displaying selected components, helps illustrate how individual parts relate to the overall anatomy.

The viewing controls allow users to rotate and zoom into each model and show or hide individual structures. A component can be examined separately before being viewed alongside the surrounding anatomy.
These tools support several ways of using the same material. An educator can demonstrate an anatomical relationship, a student can revisit it independently, and researchers can use a model as a shared visual reference during a discussion.

The project draws on my interests in biomedical communication, medical imaging and digital design. A central consideration is presenting detailed anatomical information through a straightforward interface that keeps attention on the model.
MetaAbdomen forms part of my wider work in translating biomedical information into visual resources. It connects the creation of digital anatomical models with their presentation for education and research.
